liposuction FAQs

It’s pretty normal to have tons of questions for your plastic surgeon if you are considering surgery. One of our most popular plastic surgeries in Miami is liposuction. Liposuction is a great idea if you have areas on your body that have stubborn fat that you can’t seem to lose through diet and exercise alone. Liposuction helps you achieve the results you have dreamed of without putting yourself through diets and exercise that won’t give you the solution. If you’re interested in liposuction, read through our liposuction FAQs below to find the answers to your questions. If you don’t see yours on there, feel free to give Dr. Lenny a call and our staff will help answer your questions.

What is Liposuction?

Now this one of the liposuction FAQs you might not actually know the answer to. Liposuction is a safe cosmetic procedure that uses a cannula attached to a liposuction machine to remove stubborn fat from your body. Dr. Lenny makes an incision in your body and inserts the cannula which is like straw. It is then used to loosen up the fat and is then sucked out using the machine. Liposuction can correct fatty areas of your body to give you attractive contours.

Is Liposuction a Safe Procedure?

While there is a risk with every plastic surgery procedure, we can assure that we take all precautions possible to avoid risks. You will need to verify that you understand the risks and complications associated with your liposuction surgery. Our Miami plastic surgeon will discuss these with you during your consultation.

Is Liposuction Right for Me?

We have a few requirements for being a good candidate for liposuction. To summarize: if you are in good health, near your ideal body weight and have stubborn fat you would like to get rid of, liposuction might be right for you. We ask that any patients interested in liposuction visit our office for a consultation to learn more.

How Long Does Liposuction Take?

Your liposuction procedure duration depends on how large of an area we are doing. If we were doing multiple areas, it will take longer. On average, liposuction can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 2.5 hours.

When Can I Start Exercising?

Don’t worry about exercising, you will be up and moving on the day of your surgery! We recommend that you take it easy for two weeks by only including mild exercise. After about two weeks, you should be feeling ready to return to your normal exercise routines.

When Will I See My Liposuction Results?

While you may notice some results immediately, your final results won’t be seen for 6 to 12 months. You will notice swelling for the first few weeks. After the third week, you will notice your results and begin to see a comparison of before and after photos.

Can I Combine Liposuction with Other Procedures?

It’s normal for Dr. Lenny to give our patients a mommy makeover that includes multiple procedures completed at one time. Talk to Dr. Lenny about your body goals so we can see what we can do for you.

What are the Side Effects of Liposuction?

This is one of the important liposuction FAQs that most of our patients ask us about. There are a few different side effects of liposuction. To start, you may experience some bruising, numbness and swelling in your liposuction site. These are temporary side effects that will resolve themselves in a couple of weeks maximum.

Do I Go Home the Same Day as Surgery?

Yes! We will actually send you home shortly after your surgery. As soon as you can get up and walk around, we can allow for a friend or family member to take you home. We also recommend that there is someone there for you for the next 24 hours to care for you if needed.

How Long Do I Have to Wear Compression Garments?

Wearing compression garments is a normal part of the recovery process. We recommend that you wear compression garments for 10 days unless otherwise instructed. After 10 days, you can go down to wearing them only part-time. It’s important to wear them as they help your body heal and give you the best results possible.

Will I Have Scars From Liposuction?

Dr. Lenny does his best job to give you as little scarring as possible. When he can, he will make incisions in the creases of your skin so they are not as noticeable. In addition, he also makes small incisions. You can expect to have just a few small incisions that will scar. If you’re worried, you can opt for a scar treatment or cream to make it less noticeable.

Are Irregularities, Asymmetry or Dimples Common After Liposuction?

During your consultation, Dr. Lenny will evaluate your skin elasticity and tone. This is to see what your risks for irregularities are. If he feels that your chances for irregularities are high, he will let you know so that you can discuss alternative treatment options. When liposuction is done properly, irregularities are very rare to come across. If they do occur for any reason, you can revisit for a touch-up treatment.

Does Liposuction Hurt?

Here is the answer to the last of our liposuction FAQs. You may feel a bit of discomfort following your liposuction surgery. During the surgery, you won’t feel anything. Dr. Lenny will discuss the different options for managing pain.
