What a Breast Lift Actually Does
A breast lift, also called mastopexy, restores position rather than volume. Over the years, pregnancy, nursing, weight changes, and gravity stretch the skin and let the breast settle lower on the chest. Dr. Roudner removes the excess skin, tightens the supporting tissue, and moves the nipple and areola to a higher, more natural position. If the areola has widened, he can reduce it so the whole result reads as balanced.
What a lift does not do is add fullness. Some patients want more volume along with a higher position, and in that case a lift can be combined with an implant. That is a separate decision you and Dr. Lenny make together, based on what you want to change.

Am I a Good Candidate?
The best candidates are in good health, near a stable weight, and bothered by how low or deflated the breasts sit rather than by their size. Many patients come in after having children or after significant weight loss, including following bariatric surgery, when loose skin remains no matter how consistent they are with diet and exercise.
A simple guide: if the nipple sits at or below the crease beneath the breast, a lift is often part of the answer. Dr. Lenny will confirm what fits your anatomy in your consultation. If you are still nursing or plan future pregnancies, he usually suggests waiting, since those changes can loosen the result.

Choosing the incision pattern
The right incision depends on how much lifting is needed. An incision around the areola alone suits mild sagging in smaller breasts. Adding a vertical incision below the areola, often called a lollipop pattern, reshapes moderate sagging and larger breasts. When there is more significant descent, an incision that also follows the breast crease gives the control to reshape fully. Dr. Roudner uses the smallest pattern that will hold a lasting result, and he places incisions where they tend to fade over time.
The Surgery and Recovery
A breast lift is performed under general anesthesia in an accredited surgical setting, and it generally takes a few hours depending on the technique and whether it is combined with another procedure. Dr. Roudner removes excess skin, lifts and reshapes the underlying tissue, repositions the nipple and areola, and closes in layers to support the new contour. Most lifts are outpatient, so you go home the same day with someone to drive you and stay the first night.
Expect soreness, swelling, and bruising for the first week or two, easing steadily as you heal. You will wear a supportive surgical bra to hold the shape and limit swelling. Many patients take about a week away from desk work, then ease back into light routines, while heavier lifting and strenuous exercise wait several weeks until Dr. Roudner clears you at a follow-up. Swelling settles over the following weeks and months, the shape continues to refine, and scars mature and fade gradually.
