Are you a Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular forms of plastic surgery. It is the increasing of the size of a woman’s breasts, which may be necessary for more than one reason. Breast augmentation is a procedure that is worth looking into if you have always had a very small bust but feel self-conscious and desire a fuller figure, if you are a breast cancer survivor or someone who is undergoing the transition from male to female.

Breast augmentation is the surgery that involves medical prostheses in the chest that are meant to enhance or replace a woman’s breasts. They are often made from either saline, silicone or composite material. The former two are the more common types, although composite is an alternative that features fillers such as soy, or polypropylene string or another substance. As a patient, you will get to choose which is best for you in your breast augmentation procedure.

Women who have undergone a mastectomy are prime candidates for breast augmentation. Beating breast cancer is an amazing feeling, and often times after surgery women want to feel as beautiful and feminine as they did prior to their surgery; they deserve to regain their figure. Their surgeon will give them information about breast augmentation as an option if they so choose to consider it. This procedure of breast augmentation surgery is known as primary reconstruction. It is essentially the replacement of the breast tissue that is damaged or lost due to cancer, trauma or breast deformity that is congenital.

Breast augmentation that consists of both revision and reconstruction is the procedure used on a patient to correct the prior reconstruction surgery. Essentially, it is a follow up to improve the breast augmentation that was performed on a woman who has lost her breast or breasts due to a mastectomy or injury or who had a deformity.

Primary augmentation is the traditional breast augmentation that most people think of in terms of increasing the size and shape of a woman’s breasts. It is done strictly for aesthetic purposes, and the doctor will coach the patient on the pros and cons of undergoing such breast augmentation. Ultimately, however, it is up to the individual herself whether she truly wants breast augmentation surgery.
